Ingrown Toe Nail (Onychocryptosis)

Overview

Onychocryptosis is the medical term for an ingrown nail occuring when part of the nail penetrates the skin, causing pain, which can often result in an infection. 
A nail can be grown in three different forms , as a normal nail , nail roll and plier nail . A Unguis incarnatus mostly affects the big toe . Ingrown nails are among the most common complaints in nails . Men are more likely than women affected .

Reason too tight shoes and or socks, wrong nail hygiene and cutting practice (the front end of the nail should be cut straight), stunted growth, deformities of the foot. The nail grows into the lateral nail wall. There arises infected granulation tissue. Clinic: redness, swelling, severe tenderness and purulent discharge. 

Symptoms

How are treated ingrown nails? 

Conservative therapy With only slightly inflamed ingrown toenail, only redness and pain, no granulations. Ablation of überlapenden nail, foot bath with Kamillosan, nail fold with cotton swabs soaked with Octenisept repeatedly cleaned daily. If not be converted to surgical care complaint fall within a week not improve Solte. The surgical approach to inflammation: In conduction anesthesia cleaning of the wound bed with Octenisept, ablation of tissue überwuchendem, With scissors cut the affected edge of the nail in 2 mm wide parallel to the nail wall, the nail wall with the granulations is incised with a scalpel in parallel. Footbaths with plain soap or Kamillosan® solution Analgesic prescribe ibuprofen intake as needed, up to 3 x 400 mg daily, the first night possibly also Tramal® Drop.
